Archives and photos updated!

I had some time today while I was watching paint dry, I mean, watching the Alabama game, so I’ve updated the archives section.

Links are now available on the Justin-Siena Football 2012 page for all articles that I’ve written this season.

I’ve also added a link for the article on Friday night’s 59-18 rout of Fairfield by the visiting Wolves of American Canyon on the Archives page.

Only one photo has been published this year, but I’ve uploaded it to Justin-Siena Football 2012 under the photography section.

New article posted

A new article has been posted for Justin-Siena football on the 2012 football page. The Braves defeated El Molino 53-0 in their home opener Friday night in Napa, allowing the Lions only one first down.

Justin-Siena led 41-0 at the end of the first quarter. I tried to keep the score up-to-date on Twitter, but I was pulling triple duty in the first half between note taking, photography and online. On the positive side I was able to get some great images which I’ll post later in the week.

In the meantime, Justin-Siena is now 2-0 and will host Piner next week at Dodd Stadium in their final game before the Marin County Athletic League season begins.

Thousand Oaks @ Franklin, Oaks Christian @ Del Oro, 8/24/2012

These articles appeared in the LA Daily News in August 2012 and can be found online here.

Oaks Christian 40, Del Oro 0: The Lions opened the Jeff Woodruff era with a lopsided victory on the road.

Brandon Dawkins opened the scoring with a 1-yard run to cap off a lengthy opening drive for the Lions.

Robert Morgan and Damon Riggins added runs of 70 and 13 yards, respectively, to put Oaks Christian up 21-0 at the half.

Del Oro had a chance to get on the board late in the half, but the Lions came up with a stop on first-and-goal at their 5-yard line with seven seconds left. The Eagles attempted a field goal that missed. It was the only time the Eagles found themselves inside the Lions’ 20-yard-line.

Eddie Rudinski recorded a safety and Cameron Judge returned a fumble 55 yards to extend the lead to 30-0 early in the third. Darick Holmes added a 2-yard touchdown run to round out the scoring.

Franklin 38, Thousand Oaks 28: The Lancers put forth a valiant effort, but couldn’t overcome a 24-0 first-half deficit and lost at Del Oro High in Loomis.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats put up 24 points in the second.

Trevon Lampley scored the second of his four touchdowns for Franklin with an 81-yard punt return with 2:10 remaining in the half.

The Lancers responded in the third quarter with a pair of touchdown passes from Clark Abourisk to AJ Sheehan, the first from 19 yards and the second from 38 yards out. Abourisk was 20 of 35 for 339 yards and four touchdowns, with Sheehan catching seven passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns.

The pair connected one more time in the fourth quarter, and Abourisk added another touchdown pass to Nathan DeBeikes, but Thousand Oaks had no answer for Lampley, who caught a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter to add to a pair of first-half interceptions.

This was a good learning experience for me covering a pair of high school games back-to-back. I’m used to a deadline closer to 11:30 and having only one game to report. In this case I had two games, a 10:35 deadline, and neither game started on time.

The plan was for me to write the Thousand Oaks story between games, then put together the box score during halftime of the Oaks Christian game. Due to time constraints, the story didn’t get written until halftime, which meant doing both box scores and the Oaks Christian write up in the press box on a tight deadline. Thankfully the staff in LA was patient with me.

Lesson learned: keep up the individual stat track during games rather than waiting until the game is over to do it.
